The Vuurtorenloop starts and finishes at the Flidunen sports centre in Oost-Vlieland. There are three adult distances — 5 and 10 kilometres and the half marathon — which the organisers also give in nautical miles: 2.7, 5.4 and 11.4. The routes run over paved roads, undulating shell paths and about a kilometre of beach, and all three pass the lighthouse once. The half marathon is the toughest: it adds a demanding stretch of beach and climbs the Vuurboet dune twice. The youth races over 700, 1400 and 2100 metres stay in the woods by the sports centre and so do not reach the tower.
