The Halve Marathon de Waal is a spring race on Texel that has been going for more than forty years and has stayed small: around 250 participants across four distances. The 850-metre kids run opens the programme; after that the 5 kilometres, the 10.6 kilometres and the half marathon all set off together at one o'clock. The 5 kilometres may also be walked. The course is varied and runs among other things through the polder Waalenburg, where on an open day the wind becomes a factor of its own. What participants remember most happens afterwards: soup at the finish, a lottery on start numbers and prizes in kind. AV Texel organises the race.
