The Hogebergloop is a low-key race organised by AV Texel, starting and finishing on the athletics track near Den Burg. Younger children stay on the track: 400 metres up to and including age five, 800 metres from six to eight and 1200 metres from nine to fifteen. Older participants pick 5.6 or 7.5 kilometres on the paths around the Hoge Berg. Those distances open with two laps of the track and close with one more, with a course in between running past tuunwallen, the island's traditional earth banks, and grazing sheep, with views across the rolling landscape and the Wadden Sea. Entries are taken in the clubhouse, the youth races go first and the entry fee stays low. Small in scale, but firmly rooted in the island.
