The Uiterwaarden Run sets off in front of the Dorpshuis of Nederasselt and from there climbs the dike and heads into the Meuse floodplains. That is the whole idea of this race: no streets but open river land, with the dike as a marker and the water on one side. There are three distances — 1.5, 5 and 10 kilometres — starting at intervals through the morning, so the short run goes first and there is room to watch the other starts. The field stays around two hundred, which makes the whole thing a village affair more than a competition. The run falls each year on the last Sunday of September and is organised by Nederasselt Gezond.
