The Tulpenloop runs through the Rivierduingebied between Swifterbant and Lelystad, with De Kalverschuur on the Visvijverweg as its starting point in the middle of the polder. There are two distances, 5.5 and 10 kilometres, setting off together at half past ten in the morning along quiet roads and cycle paths past tulip fields and farmland. The event is explicitly recreational: it is about running during the tulip season rather than about results. It is organised by the local nature and environment cooperative together with an athletics club from Dronten. Every participant takes home a bunch of tulips afterwards.
