The Trail du Viroin sets off from the municipal park of Nismes and takes runners into the nature park and the Entre Sambre-et-Meuse national park. There are four distances rising sharply in difficulty: the Trail Sprint of 10 kilometres with 250 metres of climbing, the Trail Court of 20 kilometres with 700, the Trail Long of 35 kilometres with 1250 and the Trail Marathon of 44 kilometres with 1500. The two longest set off together early in the morning, the shorter ones follow later. What defines this course is how little of it leaves protected land: on the longest distance well over ninety percent lies inside the national park. The two middle distances count towards a regional trail championship.
