The Ronde Venen Marathon takes one big loop through the Groene Hart around Abcoude, passing through all eight villages of the De Ronde Venen municipality, over quiet roads, a former railway line, along small rivers and across meadows. The closing kilometres cross the Botshol nature reserve, which gives the end of the marathon extra character. The marathon and the duo marathon start together from the Koppeldijk; in that duo version two participants share the distance and alternate between running and cycling, with the cyclists leaving the Raadhuisplein ten minutes earlier. There is also a 10 kilometres and the Mini-Marathon for children, over 530 or 935 metres split across four age groups. Start and finish are in the historic centre, with the Raadhuisplein as the focal point.
