The Ronde Venen Marathon runs as one large loop through the Groene Hart around Abcoude. The course passes through all eight villages of the municipality of De Ronde Venen, over quiet roads, a former railway line, along small rivers and through meadows, with the Botshol nature area in the closing kilometres. Alongside the full marathon there is a 10 km and a duo marathon, where two participants cover the distance by alternating between running and cycling. Start and finish are in the historic centre of Abcoude, with the Raadhuisplein as the focal point.
