The RoldertorenRun is named after the free-standing church tower rising above Rolde, and the shortest distance keeps it in view the longest. The three distances differ not only in length but in character: the 5 kilometres stays close to the village, the 10 alternates paved and unpaved, and the half marathon heads onto the Balloërveld — heathland, old tracks and the valley of the Drentsche Aa. Underfoot you therefore get asphalt, cycle path, sand track and singletrack mixed together, which makes an even pace harder than the flat elevation profile suggests. The three starts follow closely on one another around midday. The event is organised by Stichting Roldertorenrun.
