The Reeuwijkse Plassenloop is one of the oldest road races in the Green Heart of the Netherlands, starting and finishing at the Reeuwijkse Houtwal in the De Reeuwijkse Hout recreation area. The course is flat and largely free of traffic, winding between the Reeuwijkse lakes, which makes the race both fast and scenic. The day opens with two kids runs over 1000 and 2300 metres, followed by the 5, 10 and 15 kilometres at half-hour to hourly intervals. Each distance has its own minimum age, rising from thirteen on the 5 kilometres to eighteen on the 15. The local sports club has been organising the event for more than seventy editions.
