The Proostmeerloop has now run for more than twenty editions and is the annual running day of Wagenborgen. The course leads through the village and along the Proostmeer lake, over narrow paths and past meadows. There are three distances for seniors — 5, 10 and 15 kilometres — plus a kids run with a course of its own, split into age categories so that even the youngest participants cover a suitable distance. The children set off in the late afternoon, the seniors an hour later, and the prize-giving for both groups takes place together at the Weerland sports hall. That the race falls towards the evening and ends in a single hall gives the whole thing a distinctly village character.
