The Linschotenloop is a big village event in the Green Heart of the Netherlands, held on the Saturday before Christmas. Setting off from the Jacob Barneveldstraat are, in turn, the 1-kilometre puppy run, the 2-kilometre kids run, the 10 kilometres, the half marathon and the 5 kilometres. Walkers start at their own convenience in the morning from the football club, on waymarked routes of 4 to 30 kilometres through the wintry polder landscape; Nordic walkers are welcome too. The finish sits on a square decked out for Christmas, with food trucks and hot drinks, while the sports hall next door serves as cloakroom and warm-up space. The event dates back to 1978 and runs on more than two hundred village volunteers. Companies can enter teams over 5, 10 or 21.1 kilometres.
