The Leestencross is a recreational cross-country run through the woodland behind Ugchelen, organised by AV Veluwe. Emphatically not a competition: it is about getting outside and testing your condition on forest, sand and heath paths. No mud bath that swallows your shoes, but firm natural trails with enough small climbs to bring out the cross-country feel, and a wide view over the heath as a reward. Runners choose one, two or three laps of roughly five kilometres; all distances set off together at eleven. For members of the organising club the ten kilometres counts towards the cross-country club championship. Entry is digital only. Because the run falls in November, the course can look every bit as wintry as a genuine midwinter cross.
