The Lauwersmeer Triathlon is an open-water triathlon near Lauwersoog, with start and finish on Strandweg by Lake Lauwersmeer. The event takes place in the Lauwersmeer area and offers both the 1/8 and 1/4 triathlon, giving sprinters and athletes looking for a longer Olympic-distance challenge a suitable option. Open-water swimming, cycling and running come together here in a northern landscape of water, dikes and nature, with the national park and Dark Sky Park as the backdrop. That makes the race feel less like an anonymous triathlon and more like a sporting day firmly tied to its setting: clearly organized, but with enough space and outdoor character to stay memorable.
