Lauwersmeer Swimrun

About the race

The Lauwersmeer Swimrun alternates swimming and running with no transition zone: you run in your wetsuit and swim in your running shoes, because there is never time to take anything off. That makes it a different sport from triathlon. The course uses the Lauwersmeer area near Lauwersoog — open water, dikes, the harbour and the nature reserve — with start and finish at Beleef Lauwersoog on the Strandweg. There are three distances of 10, 18 and 28 kilometres, and those kilometres cover the swimming as well as the running. You can enter recreationally, alone or in twos, or as a competitive duo under the official swimrun rules, which means staying together the whole way.
