The Hilversum City Run is a city race starting and finishing on the Marktplein, in the middle of the centre and within walking distance of the station. The course winds across the café squares and passes the Mediapark and the Dudok town hall before heading into the Gooi neighbourhoods with their broad avenues and stately villas. Adults choose between 5 and 10 kilometres; children have their own race over 800 metres for the youngest and 1,500 metres for the older ones, also through the centre. There is a family run and a business run as well. The event runs in aid of childhood cancer research and raised well over a hundred and fifty thousand euros at the last edition.
