The Grenstriatlon takes place in Boekhoute, a village in the municipality of Assenede right by the Belgian-Dutch border. At its core is the sprint triathlon over 750 metres of swimming, 21 kilometres of cycling and 5 kilometres of running, which can be tackled individually or as a trio. Around it stands a broad programme: a youth cup in several age categories, an Ironkids duathlon in which parents and children start together, a corporate triathlon and a G-Sport race for athletes with a disability over the same sprint distance. The course leads through the polder landscape of the Meetjesland, along waterways such as the Leopold Canal. Vzw Triatlon Team Meetjesland organises the whole event, which also runs a months-long lead-up programme for anyone tackling a first triathlon.
