The Ganzenloop is a recreational run through the heart of Coevorden, tied to the centuries-old goose market. It is about taking part and experiencing rather than racing: there is no timing and participants follow a pre-marked route, with assistance along the way in case something goes wrong. That makes it more of a tour than a competition, which suits the weekend it falls in — in Coevorden the goose market is still a recognisable part of the street scene, historically and culturally. Entry is handled online in advance. New routes are ready for the coming edition, so anyone who has run it before will see a different part of the town.
