The Schoonhovencross is a short cross-country race around the recreational lake beside the Schoonhoven function centre in Hollandscheveld. The course is entirely unpaved and may be run in spikes, which gives the race a genuine cross-country feel: bends, changing ground and little chance to settle into a steady rhythm. The whole programme is done in just over an hour, running through 600 metres for the youngest children, 1200 metres for older children and the G-group, 3.2 kilometres for youth from twelve and adults, and 7.8 kilometres as the longest distance. The start and finish are at the function centre on the Marten Kuilerweg, where participants are handed pea soup or a smoked sausage afterwards. Stichting Snelle Rakkers organises the race.
