Dwars door Mechelen starts on the Veemarkt and finishes on the Grote Markt, so you genuinely run through the city rather than around it. The most striking stretch is the passage through the Tangent, the road tunnel under the old town — a place you normally only reach by car, and one that sounds and looks entirely different on foot. The morning opens with the one-kilometre Kids Run for four to twelve year olds, then the 6 and the 10 kilometres, and finally the half marathon, which takes in the best-known places in the city.
