The Dirty Monkey Run is a mud run across Sportpark 't Hoge Holt in Gramsbergen, with over sixty obstacles spread along a lap of some 7.5 kilometres. You climb over walls and hay bales, crawl through mud and pass through ditches and water; anyone wanting more runs the lap twice for fifteen kilometres. The two long routes require a swimming certificate and carry an age limit; children of seven to eleven run their own Springaapjes of 3.5 kilometres, without the deep water sections. You can enter alone or as a team, and the whole set-up is aimed squarely at persevering and finishing together rather than at the clock. Some two hundred volunteers staff the course.
