De Boterkoekenloop is a family-friendly run and walk event in Gentbrugge, with Sporthal Driebeek as the starting point and the Gentbrugse Meersen as the green setting. Sportaround vzw organises not only the 5 and 10 km options, but also separate youth runs of 300, 500 and 1000 metres, making the event clearly broader than a classic road race. The 5 and 10 km are open to runners and walkers, so sporty participants, families and local residents can all join in easily. Around the race there is extra atmosphere with a flea market, bar, picnic option and side animation. The name sticks for a reason: after the effort, every participant receives a boterkoek pastry, giving the event its warm local character.
