The Borgerswoldloop of SV Veendam Atletiek is run in the Borgerswold recreation area, starting and finishing on the hot-air-balloon field by the Fauna. The evening opens with the youngsters: 800 metres for six to nine year olds and 1.6 kilometres for ten to twelve year olds, both over a cross course around the grounds. Those youth races are timed, with prizes for the first three in each category. From thirteen upwards the main field sets off at half past seven over one, two or three laps of 2.7 kilometres — and there the timing is deliberately absent, with only a finish clock for anyone wanting to know their own time. The lap alternates between paved and unpaved ground.
