The Boerenkoolloop in Warmenhuizen is a road race with an unmistakably North Holland signature, starting and finishing on the AV Nova athletics track. The morning opens with a 1200-metre youth race on the track; then come the 5 and the 10 kilometres, which only leave the track after a hundred metres. The 5 kilometres does one lap through Tuitjenhorn and Warmenhuizen, while the 10 kilometres continues past Eenigenburg and over the Westfriese Omringdijk, with a stretch of polder where the wind can steer the whole race. That ten kilometres can also be run as a company race. Every participant goes home with a bag of kale, sausage, potatoes and herbs — a matter-of-fact and strikingly local way to finish.
