The 4 Mijl van Assen is run through and around the Marsdijk district, with start and finish in the Anne Frank Park. The race grew out of the Marsdijkrun and now belongs to the AssenRuns circuit. Around the park stands a festival ground with music, a fair, a children's square and a sports market, which makes the day reach beyond the four miles themselves. Alongside the main distance there is a Kidsrun for primary school pupils and the option to enter as a team. For those who do not yet run, the organisers offer clinics and set practice routes through the districts of Assen, so that the step to the start line gets smaller.
