Winter Marathon Leeuwarden is a winter event that starts and finishes on the Harlingertrekweg, next to the WTC EXPO. The programme ranges from three kids runs over 500, 1,000 and 1,500 metres to 5.5, 7.5, 10 and 16 kilometres, the half marathon and the full marathon. The marathon sets off first, at ten in the morning, with the shorter distances following through the course of the morning; the finish closes five hours after that first gun. The routes head north-east from the Harlingertrekweg, past the water and the Cambuur Stadion, after which the longest distances carry on through the Frisian villages and return along the Van Harinxmakanaal. The marathon has an aid station every five kilometres.
