Triatlon Leeuwarden

About the race

The Triatlon Leeuwarden traditionally falls on the first Saturday of the northern summer holidays and uses the Groene Ster recreation area as the base for all three disciplines. Athletes choose between the sprint distance, with 750 metres of swimming, 20 kilometres of cycling and 5 kilometres of running, and the Olympic distance, whose bike course at around 42 kilometres runs a little longer than usual. The organisers deliberately position the event as participation sport: the starting point is that every entrant can complete the challenge at their own level, from first-time triathletes to seasoned athletes.
