The Vuurtoren Trail is a two-day trail festival on the island of Ameland, starting and finishing in the centre of Hollum. The course is largely off-road and alternates dunes, beach, soft sand and playful woodland sections, with plenty of singletrack. Saturday opens with the 60-kilometre ultra heading towards the Oerd, followed by the 26, 12 and 18 kilometres; Sunday brings the 35 and 15 kilometres. There are also walking distances from 12 to 35 kilometres, Cani Trails for runners with a dog and a Kids Trail with laps around the lighthouse. The event is cup-free: no disposable cups at the aid stations. For the longest distances you need to be on the island by the previous evening, because the first ferry arrives too late.
