The Vestingloop Edam is run along the old ramparts of the little town. The finish lies on the Baandervesting by the chain bridge, where the youth races also start: 1 kilometre at quarter past ten and 2.6 kilometres a quarter of an hour later. The three-mile fun run and the 10 kilometres set off at eleven from the Noordervesting. Because the course follows the ramparts, it runs largely alongside the water and through the old centre, with short bends and few long straights. The event is organised by Atletiek Vereniging Edam.
