The Veluwse Ultra Trail starts from Landgoed Stakenberg, deep in the woods just above Elspeet. The event is built around two loops of roughly 50 kilometres, both beginning and ending at the estate. The north loop leaves early in the morning by way of the Hendriksbos, Liehorst and the Beekhuizerzand; the south loop sets off in the early afternoon through the Elspeterbosch, Vierhouten and the municipal forests of Nunspeet, returning across the Elspeterheide. Running both loops adds up to 100 kilometres, there is an intermediate option of 75 kilometres, and each loop can also be run on its own as a 50-kilometre ultra. The elevation gain stays modest; it is the sandy tracks and the sheer length that make the day hard.
