The Veluwezoom Trail is the oldest organised ultra trail in the Netherlands: the first edition was run in 2010 by eighty-one participants over a single distance of fifty-three kilometres. It has since grown into a trail festival with the start and finish at the Veluwse Poort in Dieren. The course runs through the Middachten and Twickel estates, over single tracks, heath and forest, with plenty of climbing and descending and views across the largest continuous nature area in the country. Distances range from 7 to 62 kilometres, with walking versions on a more generous time limit and two kids' trails. Participants choose for themselves whether to start in the morning or the afternoon.
