The Urk Marathon starts and finishes in the harbour of Urk and offers a half and a full marathon. The course consists of laps along the historic boulevard and over the dyke, so runners and spectators meet each other several times — on a former island there is simply not much room to run far away. What is unusual is that the organisers fix the direction of the course only shortly beforehand, depending on the wind, so that it works out as favourably as possible. On a dyke along the IJsselmeer that makes a considerable difference. The event is organised by Loopgroep Urk.
