The city triathlon of Zutphen plays out inside the old Hanseatic town: the swim is in the Vispoortgracht, the bike leg runs along the IJssel and the run goes through the centre. There are two distances, a sixteenth and an eighth triathlon, of which the eighth can also be covered as a relay. The setup is markedly accessible and aims at anyone trying a triathlon for the first time, without letting go of the competitive structure — the event falls under the Dutch triathlon federation. In cold weather or if the water quality is insufficient, the organisers can switch to a run-bike-run, replacing the swim with an extra running leg.
