The Triathlon of Abbekerk has been held on the first Sunday of September since 1984, which makes it the longest-running triathlon in the Netherlands. It grew out of a collaboration between the village swimming club, the ice club and the gymnastics club. Because there is no suitable open water nearby, the swim takes place in the De Spetter pool; from there it goes out over the roads around De Weere and Lambertschaag, in bike laps of twelve kilometres. The eighth distance rides two of them, the quarter four. Start and finish are at the DDNH village hall and on the village square. For youngsters from eight to fourteen there is a sprint version that can be entered free of charge, and teams are welcome too.
