The Triathlon de la Salm takes place around the lac des Doyards in Vielsalm, in the Belgian Ardennes. That is where the swim starts, after which the bike course follows the country roads of the municipality and the run leads around the lake and through the streets of the town. Athletes choose between the sprint, with 750 metres of swimming, 21 kilometres of cycling and 5 kilometres of running, and the Olympic distance over 1500 metres, 42 and 10 kilometres; both can also be done as a relay. The sprint sets off in the morning, the Olympic distance in the early afternoon. The organisers are a small volunteer team and deliberately aim for an accessible, warm-hearted atmosphere.
