Les Boucles Ardennaises sets off at the sports complex of the Athénée Royal in La Roche-en-Ardenne, with the Ourthe valley as its thread. There are three distances, and the organisers publish how the surface is divided for each. The 10 kilometres with 340 metres of climbing runs more than half on tarmac and is open to walkers as well. The Semi-Marathon Trail of 21.1 kilometres with 592 metres runs seventy percent on dirt tracks. The Marathon Trail of 42 kilometres with 1548 metres seeks out the narrow paths and crosses streams along the way. That build-up makes the gap between the distances wider than the kilometres alone.
