The Singelloop Nieuwpoort is run on the Wednesday before Ascension Day, traditionally also the day of the street market. The 5 and 10 kilometres circle the western moat and are anything but flat tarmac: they include a gravel passage of the Doodloop and a stretch of goat path along the rampart. From six o'clock the children go first, over one or three laps inside the fortress — 667 metres or two kilometres. Timing is handled by the athletics club AV Passaat and entry is online, so on the day itself you only need to collect your bib. The compact fortress means spectators and runners keep meeting each other.
