The Polderrun is a road race in and around Bleskensgraaf, starting and finishing in the middle of the village. There are three distances: 3.5, 7 and 10 English miles. The longest is entirely paved and fast, with long straight roads through the open polder, sturdy dykes and kilometres between meadows and water, passing the Donkse Laagten among other places; that course is certified by the Dutch athletics federation. Walkers cover the same 3.5 English mile course as the runners. The other thing that defines the race is its charity: the proceeds go to a foundation working for children in southern Mozambique. Participants are therefore running for more than a time.
