The Schoklandloop is run on the Schokland World Heritage Site, the former Zuiderzee island that has sat as a raised ridge in the Noordoostpolder since the water was drained. The start and finish are on Middelbuurt, beside the historic church hamlet and the museum grounds. The 5 kilometres stays on the Zuidereiland and passes the Het Flevo-landschap management barn; the 10.4 kilometres makes one large loop around the entire former island. Along the way runners pass old dykes and the remains of settlements, with wide views across the polder. It is an evening race with a limited field, so entries usually sell out well before race day. AV NOP organises it together with Het Flevo-landschap and Museum Schokland; the entry fee includes timing, a keepsake and a drink.
