Rûnom Mantgum sets off from the De Wjukken community centre and starts in reverse order: the 15-kilometre trail first at eleven, the 10 ten minutes later and the 5 ten minutes after that. That 15 goes offroad, through meadows and along stretches of tsjerkepaad around the village. Every distance is timed electronically with a chip in the bib, so everyone gets their own net time. The parent-child classification is the distinctive part: parent and child times are added together, and whoever ran the longer distance is converted to an average over five kilometres — so a parent on the 15 is ranked right alongside a child on the 5. The proceeds go to Stichting Doch Dyn Dream, which gives around two hundred children in Matunda in western Kenya shelter and schooling.
