The RunForestRun Hondsrug sets off at the Poolshoogte restaurant in Odoorn and climbs onto the Hondsrug, the sand ridge running right across Drenthe that gives the area its elevation. There are four distances of 13, 21, 27 and 43 kilometres, rising steadily without the shortest being a warm-up: there too you run largely on forest path and heath. RunForestRun puts on a series of trails in the nature areas of the northern and eastern Netherlands, and the set-up is always the same — a place to eat as the base, waymarked routes and little fuss around them.
