The Pre-Run NN Dam tot Damloop is an evening race organised by Le Champion at the Zaanse Schans, starting on the Kalverringdijk by the Huisman windmill. The distances are chosen as a stepping stone towards the Dam tot Damloop itself: 3.5 English miles, some 5.6 kilometres, and 7 English miles, a little over 11 kilometres. The course leads through the wooden setting of the Zaanse Schans, past windmills, barns and workshops. Because the running happens in the evening, participants are advised to bring lights. The combination of that setting and its role as a test race makes the event popular: both distances tend to sell out.
