The Pierewaai Trail sets off at the Zeezicht beach pavilion on the Kennemerstrand in IJmuiden aan Zee. There are five distances: 10 and 15 kilometres as a beach run, plus 21, 42 and 60 kilometres over beach, dune and the nature areas along the North Sea coast. The routes are largely unpaved and followed by GPS; entrants run semi-self-supporting. The beach section makes the pace strongly dependent on tide and wind — with an offshore wind and soft sand, a time runs minutes slower than it would on the road. There is both a summer and a winter edition. The event is organised by UltraRenT.
