The Omloop van de Biesbosch runs through the Noordwaard, an area deliberately allowed to flood a few times a year to take up excess river water. What remains the rest of the year is rugged nature with pools and little bridges, and a course that is entirely paved. The 5 and the 10 kilometres are each a single lap and set off at half past seven in the evening; an hour earlier the youth distances of 500 to 2000 metres run, each in its own age group. Entry is by advance registration only and the field is held to four hundred. Everyone has to be in within ninety minutes of the start. Count on the start being remote: from Werkendam it is another fourteen kilometres by road.
