The Mudrun of Vlaardingen is held in the Broekpolder, a green area on the edge of town, and has now run for eleven editions. There are two distances, each with its own angle: the 5 kilometres is offered as a family run and as an adult-only variant, while the 10 kilometres aims at experienced and recreational participants. Besides running there is climbing, scrambling and swimming, and mud is a fixed ingredient. Participants set off in groups so that the obstacles do not jam up — which makes the course more a sequence of obstacles than a continuous lap. The event is organised by Adventure Vlaardingen together with Stichting Survival Vlaardingen.
