The Marktstadrun is the city race of Purmerend, with start and finish on the Koemarkt in the middle of the centre. The event belongs to the Purmerend late-summer festival week and has now run for fourteen editions. There is a choice of 5 and 10 kilometres, a kids run and the Marktstadwalk for those who would rather walk. On top of that there is a business run in which teams of eight take part, with their own catering and a shared celebration afterwards. Because the start, the finish and the warm-up all happen on the same square, the whole thing stays easy to follow and the crowd stands close to the runners. That makes the Marktstadrun as much a city event as a race.
