LOOP Leeuwarden is the big running and walking event of Fryslân, starting on the Wilhelminaplein with every distance finishing at the foot of the Oldehove. The order is the reverse of what you might expect: the half marathon opens the day at half past nine, while the 10 and the 5 kilometres come only in the afternoon. Walkers get no gun but an hour-long window, the 18 kilometres first and the 6 last, so that everyone comes in at roughly the same time. The kidsruns over 1 and 2.5 kilometres stay on the Oldehoofsterkerkhof. Participants can also set up a sponsorship campaign for the Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur Fryslân, which pays club fees and equipment for children from families with money worries.
