The KOSC Loop opens the year in Ootmarsum: early January, halfway through the afternoon, starting and finishing on the Alleeweg at the 'n Tooslag sports complex. The KOSC football club puts on three distances — 2.5, 5 and 10 kilometres — plus a kids run, so the whole village can join in whatever their fitness. It is emphatically not a performance event: the prizes include a bowl of pea soup, which captures the tone well. Registration is done in advance, and the prize-giving follows immediately afterwards. For anyone wanting to leave the holidays behind with a loop through the wintry Twente landscape, this is a familiar fixture.
