The Kolonieloop sets off at the Old Forward football club in Wilhelminaoord and runs through the Koloniën van Weldadigheid, the nineteenth-century agricultural colony area on the UNESCO list. Along the way the routes pass twelve historical points, among them the characteristic colonist cottages. The course is largely unpaved — asphalt, sand and gravel alternate — and leads through forest and along long avenues. There are distances of 5, 10, 15 and 21.1 kilometres plus a children's run of 2.5. The field is capped at a thousand, which keeps the atmosphere unhurried.
