The Kolkloop is the evening race of Blokzijl, the little fortified town on the edge of the Kop van Overijssel, and has been going for over forty years. The evening opens with three youth races that scale with age, from 500 metres for the youngest children to a kilometre and a half for fourteen-year-olds; entry is free for all of them. The recreational races over 5.5 and 8 kilometres follow. Registration, sign-in and changing all happen at the MFC de Ploats community centre on Groenestraat. For years the race fell on the first Saturday in August, but since 2024 it has moved to the second Saturday in July to avoid the industry holiday period.
