The Kemmelberg Trail sets off from the Dries, the village square of Kemmel, and from there seeks out the hills of the West Flemish Heuvelland. The Kemmelberg itself is, at 156 metres, the highest point in Flanders; the longer distances also take in the Lettenberg, Baneberg, Rodeberg and Monteberg. There are four distances: 12 kilometres with more than 300 metres of climbing, 21 kilometres with 440, 35 kilometres with 770 and 50 kilometres with nearly 1,100. The course is largely unpaved and clearly waymarked. The aid stations hold water, sports drink, cola, fruit, cake and sandwiches, but no disposable cups: bringing your own cup or soft flask is part of this race.
